Milo Activity & Sampling at Educare

Many thanks to Roz van der Vyver and her team representing Nestle who visited Emmanuel Educare on Wednesday 25 May 2011.

They provided the children with a fun-filled hour in which the children were told about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and participated in an obstacle course. After that, they were rewarded with a sampling of the Milo chocolate drink.

The children enjoyed this immensely. Because of the wet weather, the activities were held in the hall, and not on the newly established lawn in the playground. (Many thanks also to the team from Reddam School working so hard to improve our playground).

SABC Breakfast Show: Congo Rose Teddy Bears

3 members of our crafts team, Hazel Dathi, Pikiswa Mahahshe and Tembekazi Qinga were on National Television (on the morning of Wednesday 25 May 2011) on SABC 3′s EXPRESSO breakfast show. Dave Barnes (WUCT Manager) picked them up at 4.00 am. Judy Lambrecht, the co-ordinator of the crafts for WUCT, also attended.

The show started at 5.30am, and there was great excitement when they got there to find Evita Bezuidenhout was also a guest on the show. Judy and Anouk (of Congo Rose) were interviewed and spoke about the Trust’s partnership with Congo Rose in producing teddy bears made out of bits of fabric. Then Hazel, Pikiswa and Tembekazi all spoke about their involvement and how working at the community centre has changed their lives. They were amazed by all the lights, cameras, etc – it was a wonderful experience for them. Afterwards Dave took everyone out to breakfast in Green Point.

Shoe drop at Emmanuel Educare

19 May 2011.

The Bobs for Good Foundation & Reddam House (Constantia) students did a “shoe drop” at the Emmanuel Educare pre-school at which 110 children each received a brand new pair of school shoes.  A similar function was held earlier in the day at the new Westlake Primary School.

The funding for the shoes was raised by students at Reddam House School, Constantia, and a number of the students were present to fit each child with their new shoes.

The gathering in the Community Hall was addressed by Dave Barnes (Manager: WUCT) and Matt Botha (Events Manager, Bobs for Good Foundation).  Dave Barnes quoted Nelson Mandela who said “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

The Bobs for Good Foundation was founded by former Springbok captain, Bob Skinstad, and his friend, Ron Rutland. The foundation employs a dynamic team of changemakers who work with like-minded partners and private donors to ensure that South Africa’s neediest children will one day walk tall in a brand new pair of quality leather school shoes donated by the foundation.  To read more about the foundation, visit www.bobsforgoodfoundation.org.
