Phillippi Trust – Support Group Facilitator training

Phillippi Trust, a registered NPO, has been running a 5-day accredited training course this week (21-25 Feb) on how to facilitate support groups. Representatives from 7 organisations namely Compassion in Action, Living Hope, FAMSA, Lifeline, OIL, Monwabisi and Westlake United Church Trust (Xolisa, Sandile, Thobeka and Carmen) attended the course and have enjoyed it, as well as the endless cups of filter coffee and delicious lunches provided by the caterers Toby, Bertram and Safwaan!

Linah, champion gardener!

Linah Jokazi, champion gardener for the Masivuke organic garden project at Westlake, showed us a massive pumpkin weighing 15kgs, which she recently harvested in her garden. Linah will be moving soon to a new allotment and her current garden will be transformed into a playground for the children. Meanwhile to help her pump water from the borehole, Linah recently acquired a new generator – thank you, Willow Creek, USA, for making this possible.

Valentine’s Day, Roses & HIV Prevention!

Xolisa, Georgio and Fiona, our team of fieldworkers, handed out roses to members of the community on Valentine’s Day, as well as HIV information – to create HIV/Aids awareness in the village and as part of prevention activities.

As you can see, even the men were delighted to receive roses on Valentine’s Day!

WUCT Annual General Meeting 6 Sept 2010

Yes, we did have an AGM in 2010.  This was held on 6 September 2010 to approve the 2009 Financial Statements.  There was a special programme with 3 testimonies from staff members and the New Apostolic Choir sang uplifting songs for us.  James McGregor outlined his  vision for the future of WUCT, and a PowerPoint presentation gave some insights into activities during the year.  This was a joyous event and afterwards snacks were enjoyed by all.  Many thanks to Eleanor for her wonderful flower arrangements.

Sorry about the quality of the photo’s – evidently the flash wasn’t working!
