2010 Grade R Graduation and Nativity Play

On Saturday 27 November Emmanuel Educare held their Grade R Graduation and Nativity Play in the Community Hall.  The event was well attended by over 160 parents, relatives and sponsors and the crowd thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.  The current Grade R class will continue classes as Grade 1 at Emmanuel Educare until the new Westlake Primary School opens its doors in April 2011.

HIV testing at Retreat Station

WUCT is a member of MSAT South(Multi-Sectoral Action Team), a City of Cape Town initiative to develop a multi sectoral action plan to respond to the dual epidemic of HIV/Aids and TB. NGO’s doing HIV work in our area of the South Peninsula,  get together to network on a monthly basis and co-ordinate strategies to address the challenges associated with TB and HIV/Aids.

We are working with the Government’s campaign to get 1 million people tested by June 2011, so we held an HIV Testing day at Retreat Station on Wed 24 Nov and 75 people were tested! This was a huge success, despite the wind (!), and was one of a 3-day event which MSAT South is running at 3 railway stations/taxi ranks, namely Fish Hoek on Tues 23 Nov, Retreat on Wed 24 Nov, and Wynberg on Thurs 25 Nov.

As you can see from the photos, we had people queueing up to be tested, as well as have their blood pressures taken!

Ballet Demonstration with Reddam School

On Saturday 13 November the Grade R children from Emmanuel Educare teamed up with Westlake Community Children and the Reddam House Ballet Group to give a demonstration of  the dance syllabus that they are learning.

This fund raising event was well supported and everyone remarked on the good behaviour of the children.  As a finale, the Westlake Hip Hop group gave a great performance and the crowd went wild!!  Special thanks to Kim Day, Samantha Ackerman and Tanith Muller for organising this event.
