Our AGM Celebration!
AGM Short Video (Click on here for a short video).
We held our AGM Celebration on Saturday, 23 August 2008, at the Westlake Worship Centre in Westlake Village. People from the community, as well as staff of the Trust, and visitors, filled the church. The event was opened in prayer by Floors van Rooy, WUCT Trustee from Bergvliet Congregational Church. There was singing by the ABET group and the Home Based Carers, James McGregor presented the Chairman’s report, the Emmanuel Educare children performed their Noah’s Ark dances (the Mafuta elephants dance, and the builders dance), and MC, Dave Barnes, introduced a ‘mystery’ speaker – none other than Madiba himself, who had an amusing conversation with Archbishop Tutu! Needless to say he brought the house down! Our spiritual dancers, led by Stacey from the Grade R class, danced beautifully and got a standing ovation! Thank you to Hazel, the Grade R teacher, who taught them this absolutely stunning dance. Pastor Franklyn Dennison, from the Westlake Worship Centre, closed the afternoon with a prayer, and everyone enjoyed some tea and went home after an entertaining afternoon! We give God the glory for all He has done!
Womens Day!
On Friday 8 August, we held a Womens Day event at the Assemblies of God Church in Westlake. A member of St Martin’s Church, Bergvliet, came and did a flower arranging demonstration, and then she invited a member of the community to join her to do an arrangement. Members of the chronic disease support group were spoilt and pampered by the home based carers, and there was much singing and laughter! In total, 50 people attended – even some men – and enjoyed tea and cake! Afterwards the women were given a rose each and a Womans Day card with a Bible verse.
Noah’s Ark!
On Saturday 2 August, our pre-school Emmanuel Educare, together with Reddam School Academy of Dance, presented Noah’s Ark, a ballet, at Reddam School. 500 people packed the hall and enjoyed a wonderful fun-filled afternoon, beautiful costumes and first-class ballet directed by Karen Butler! It was an unforgettable occasion and as our Chairman, James McGregor, commented afterwards ‘this is what community is all about’ – when a school such as Reddam can present such an excellent ballet with an underprivileged school, which is situated next door. This is what makes us proudly South African!
Our building renovations are under way!
The builders started the renovations in June and we have been working ever since in a virtual building site, even at time having to wear hard hats! There has been a lot of noise, banging, hammering, drilling, dust – and power failures! Anyway, it will be well worth it and we are looking forward to brand new offices, meeting rooms and workplaces for the sewing and beadwork ladies, an internet cafe, an office for the Westlake Development Forum, and a state of the art community centre for the Westlake community!
