Our playground has moved!

Due to the building renovations, our playground has been moved to another side of the building. The children are making the most of the beautiful weather and enjoying the equipment.

Westlake goes upmarket!

On Saturday, we had a table at Christ Church Constantia’s craft fair. We sold lots of our stunning newly designed bags and tablemats, which we have recently been busy manufacturing. We also sold a large number of our ‘button necklaces’, which our beaders have been producing with beads and re-cycled buttons donated to us.

The button necklaces cost R25 each, and the bags R60 each. Please contact us if you would like to order/buy any! The table mats cost R30 each.

Johnny is back on line!

Jonathan McLean, 37, comes to our community office every day from 9am to 3pm, to do what he calls office work. He loves his computer and does school work on it, and he also helps to clean up and do odd jobs. The office was broken into on 23 March, and his computer tower was stolen. He was devastated. An article was written in the local Constantiaberg Bulletin, and a young man from Tokai, Nick Martin, very kindly came in with a new tower for Johnny. He is absolutely thrilled to be back on line and we are so grateful to Nick for his generous donation.

EU visits our home based carers

On Tuesday 1 April, a delegation from the European Union, as well as from Dept Health National Government, and Dept Health Provincial Govt, visited us in Westlake. They met the home based carers, who took them to see a patient in the village. They financially support our home based care program and we were delighted to meet them and take them around the village.

Red Zebra comes to Westlake!

During the Easter holidays, we held a 3-day children’s holiday program in our hall for 2oo children from Westlake, aged 6-15 years. An organisation called Red Zebra came with 200 drums and entertained the children through drama, music and drumming exercises! There was lots of noise – and fun -and the children had an amazing time! They learnt about listening skills, as well as issues such as drug abuse, child abuse and the importance of education and going to school. Each day after the program each child was given a lunch box. Everyone enjoyed the experience and we believe it was a huge success.

Cape to Cairo

Our sewing instructor, Judy Lambrecht, has left to go on a 6 month adventure with her family and their landrover through Africa. We had a party for her and Nozipho made her a beautiful African outfit called an ‘mbhaco’, which she said she will wear on her travels! We will miss her, but wish them all the best and pray that they will have a wonderful time.
